Blackout

We had a blackout last night, among the rest 5 million people who lost their electricity, totally caught off guard. It was unusually hot for San Diego. We were hiding in our air conditioned house until, puuh, lights off. No electricity, no internet, not even phone coverage and daddy was away for business...Totally unprepared but also realized how spoiled we are to the modern life.

The kids were excited, they smell something unusual in the air and that must be fun. We all came out of the house in the evening. Landon was running after the bigger kids in the neighborhood, Nea was excited to see so many people, first time I met and talked to so many of my neighbors. I guess there is always something positive, even during the darkest night.

  1. I remembered when the earthquake of 1976 happened in Beijing, all our kids were so excited to move in the 防震棚。这种突发事件对孩子们来说永远是最好玩得了。Nea有你的神情啊。可爱。

  2. Beautiful first photo! Yes light always light even we we think it is dark. Meeting people spontaneously is so rewarding isn't it?

  3. Yanyan, I was really inspired by this story. About how you turned a potentially very annoying situation into a positive one, and about the sense of community that permeated every syllable of this. Wonderful!

  4. My dear yanyan, thanks SO MUCH for your kind words and understandings! I enjoy so much your series on Landon going to school. It reminds me of iza's old days :) I love Landon's artwork. We can never pretend children's drawing. Their strokes are bold and direct.
I miss you all. Please send my kisses to little Landon and sweet Nea!
I need to go to sleep now since I need to wake up 5 in the morning preparing for iza's school. Will get back to you tomorrow.
